Join Pasadena’s Playhouse Live on Sunday, January 10, at 5 p.m., for the Opening Night performance of “You I Like,” a tribute to celebrate the life of composer and lyricist Jerry Herman, who passed away on December 26, 2019.
This will be the first time a theatrical tribute to Herman is being held since his passing. The tribute will feature Bernadette Peters, David Hyde Pierce, “You I Like” creator Andy Einhorn and Producing Artistic Director Danny Feldman.
From “Hello, Dolly!” to “Mame” to “La Cage aux Folles,” Herman gifted audiences with some of the most beloved showtunes in Broadway history. Conceived, written, and hosted by veteran musical director Andy Einhorn, “You I Like” features personal and stirring anecdotes from Herman’s life as well as joyful and optimistic songs from the composer’s memorable musicals.

During the tribute, a remarkable cast of Broadway performers will take you down memory lane to “Put On Your Sunday Clothes” (one of Herman’s popular songs) as you sing along to your favorites and discover lesser-known masterpieces.
The Pasadena Playhouse tribute has been in the works for over a year, blossoming out of an earlier incarnation at the 92nd Street Y in New York, said a report in Hollywood Reporter.
“There’s a series there called Lyrics and Lyricists,” Einhorn said in the article. “It was started about 50 years ago to celebrate lyricists and the writing of their craft and in the original series it was Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Sheldon Harnick; you had all of the Golden Age of musical theatre going on stage talking about their work and then people would perform it. Over the years, obviously as many of them unfortunately got older or passed away, [the series] took on a different life and an artist such as myself would come in and create a presentation.”
Opening night will include special tributes from Bernadette Peters and David Hyde Pierce, both of whom starred in the Tony-winning 2017 “Hello, Dolly” revival.
